New York Subway Token Earrings
A RARE, VINTAGE PAIR OF EARRINGS FOR ANYONE WHO LOVES NEW YORK CITY.
Two vintage "Y cutout" subway tokens hang from hand wrapped pyrite cubes. These small tokens with the "Y cutout" are the first tokens used. They were in use from 1953-1970.
Earrings are on brass lever back wires so they never fall out. 2" long, faceted pyrite cubes, and bronze wire and fittings. Nickel-free, lead-free.
Earrings come packaged with a printed history of the NYC tokens in a muslin drawstring bag.
The NYC subway token was first introduced in 1953. Over the next 50 years, 6 variations were designed and minted, becoming well-known symbols of the bustling underground transit system. Just after midnight on April 13, 2003, the tokens were phased out.
