I went to a gem fair last week to load up on supplies for the new designs I will make for next year. This is usually so much fun. It doesn't take long for me to spend my budget but I always reserve a little money for something new and unexpected. I like to wander around and just wait for something to speak to me. Last week, I happened upon some petrified sea mollusks that grabbed my attention right away.
I looked them over, loved the colors, and shine of the polish but set them back on the table because, sea snails? Who wears sea snails? I wandered for a while longer and saw some other things that I liked a lot, but I couldn't get those mollusks out of my mind. Did you know that these are creatures that lived between 100 and 250 million years ago? Isn't that amazing? In my research, I also learned that some people believe that these babies have good feng shui properties because the spiral design keeps your energy moving around and around so it's never stagnant. I'm not really sold on this idea but I totally love the thought of wearing something that has been on the earth longer than any of us. The history!!
Looking closely at them, I am reminded of a Henry David Thoreau quote: "Nature will bear the closest inspection. She invites us to lay our eye level with the smallest leaf, and take an insect view of its plain." Is it just me? Or on close inspection, aren't these ammonite pendants something special?

Wow that turned out much prettier than I could have imagined.
