Do you know someone who will be turning 50 soon?
There are a few birthdays that are milestones and demand to be celebrated. When we are kids, every birthday is a big deal, but as we get older there are just a handful that feel a bit more important than the others. Like, turning 16 is a big one. Then 21. After that, it's the 30th birthday and then every new decade. 40, 50, and so on.
Lately, I've been getting a lot of requests for 50th birthday gift ideas so I thought I would share them with you here.
Always with gift-giving, thoughtfulness wins. I wrote a post a while back called 'The Art of Thoughtful Gift-Giving' you might like. But today, I want to focus on only one of the aspects I mentioned in that post, which is personalized gifts.
Nothing makes a gift more meaningful than one that is personalized in some way. Which brings me to my favorite gift for a woman turning 50.
This little penny locket can be made with pennies from the year the birthday girl was born.
It opens up to reveal the back of the locket which is also a penny and can hold tiny objects. It is a charmer!
Another idea I have for this birthday occasion is using coins with the number 50 on them.
There are so many beautiful coins in my collection but the two I love most with 50's on them are these:
The first is from Tanzania and has not only a 50, but an adorable rabbit. Since rabbits are considered good luck charms, how fun would it be to include a card that said something like,
"Fifty is your LUCKY year!. Happy Birthday!"
Or, how about this coin necklace from Sweden? On one side is a 50, and the other is a gorgeous crown image. Fifty is her year to reign as queen, am I right?
I have other ideas with pennies as well. These can all be customized with pennies from the birth year.
This Five Penny Necklace is a fun, colorful piece made by heat fusing glass enamel to the backs of copper pennies. And! there is a penny for every decade she's been alive.
Or, you could do something more understated like these single Penny Necklaces made with pennies and colorful glass enamel. These are such fun conversation piece necklaces and people are delighted to learn the penny is from the year they were born.
These are a few of my favorite "50 specific" birthday gift ideas. But, if you have an idea of your own, please feel free to contact me. I am always open to creative collaborations.
I received my spinning necklace today. Thank you so much. I think of it as my mom necklace for several reasons;
1. I plan to entertain and bribe my children and grandchildren with it.
2. The hen with her chicks.
3. There is a song sung by the MoTab choir, "Turn Around https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kh_F-z_Pabk which I love. Thank you again.
